Hyderabad Dhyana Kendra undertook a Covid relief work on April 12, 2020 on Easter Sunday. After an appeal to the devotees of Hyderabad, donations poured in to help the daily wage labourers who are out of work. The Kendra donated groceries for a week for a single family costing Rs 550/- per bag of 10 kgs, containing rice, dal, oil, sugar, tamarind, turmeric, chilli powder and salt. These groceries were sourced from the whole sale market in Malakpet co-ordinated by a volunteer from a nearby society, who has been distributing meals and groceries in large scale during the lock down. The Hyderabad Dhyana Kendra identified Vaddara Basti which is in Begumpet (area behind Begumpet railway station), a large slum which has daily wage labourers in huge numbers. With a help of the Begumpet Police and also volunteers from a nearby society, we started the distribution on Easter Sunday at 11 am on April 12, 2020. Since the crowd was uncontrollable even with the police, the distribution was suspended; instead the groceries were taken to each house and given. We have distributed over 300 packets, to various homes with the total cost coming to Rs 1,65,000/-.
